Happy New Year!

With road trips and 4×4 sessions well underway for the christmas holidays, we think that the following question from a TikTok follower is quite suitable.

They asked ” How bad is driving 4×4 in H4 for an extended period of time e.g. on the freeway?”
Steve’s response is as follows…

“There are a lot variables with this question. Most four-wheel drives are actually designed to run four wheel high range no problem at all. The problem is when you are come into running diff locks or centre locks – that is when there is an issue. But four wheel high shouldnt have an issue. There are a lot of cars on the road that are factory four high all the time. 80 series and 100 series Landcruisers for example, even Jeeps- they all came that way. The only real reason they brought out the two-wheel drive and hublocks on the front is to preserve the life of the front diff and obviously improve fuel economy because you are not driving on four wheels all the time. but generally speaking four high shouldnt be a problem to run at an extended period of time. Wet weather is a really good example of when to use it. Icy roads are another one. So, yes it’s there for a reason and you can use it!
